About Chess with AI & Sound
Elevate your strategic gameplay with Chess Master, a premium, browser-based chess experience designed for both casual players and aspiring tacticians. Built with a sleek, modern interface and powered by a robust custom AI engine, this game delivers a seamless, lag-free chess experience without the need for any downloads, plugins, or account creation. At the heart of Chess Master is a sophisticated Minimax algorithm enhanced with Alpha-Beta pruning and Piece-Square Tables (PST). This ensures the computer opponent doesn't just make random moves, but actively evaluates board control, piece positioning, and material advantage to provide a genuinely challenging and human-like experience across three distinct difficulty levels (Easy, Medium, and Hard). The user interface is crafted for clarity and ease of use. Visual aids dynamically highlight your selected piece, display valid moves as subtle dots, indicate capture opportunities with target rings, and flash a warning glow when your King is in check. The comprehensive side panel keeps you informed with real-time algebraic move history, a tally of captured pieces with material advantage calculations, and quick-access controls. Whether you want to test your skills against the AI, practice specific openings using the "Hint" feature, or challenge a friend in local 2-player mode, Chess Master has you covered. With full support for all official rules (including castling, en passant, and pawn promotion), responsive touch controls for mobile devices, and 100% local browser processing for absolute privacy, it is the ultimate digital chessboard.

Frequently asked questions
Is Chess Master free and private?
Yes, it is 100% free to play. All game logic and AI calculations happen locally in your browser, meaning no data is ever sent to external servers.
How smart is the computer AI?
The AI uses a Minimax algorithm with Alpha-Beta pruning. "Easy" adds randomness to shallow searches, "Medium" looks 2 moves ahead, and "Hard" looks 3 moves ahead while evaluating piece positioning (Piece-Square Tables) for a strong, strategic challenge.
Can I play as Black against the computer?
Absolutely. Simply select "Black" from the "Play as" dropdown. The game will automatically flip the board so your pieces are at the bottom, and the computer will make the first move.
Does the game support special chess rules?
Yes, the game is powered by the industry-standard chess.js library, ensuring 100% accurate validation for castling, en passant, pawn promotion, and all draw conditions (stalemate, threefold repetition, etc.).
What does the "Hint" button do?
When clicked, the AI quickly evaluates the current board state and temporarily highlights the piece and square for the statistically strongest move available to you.
How does the "Undo" feature work in vs Computer mode?
To keep the game fair, clicking "Undo" in AI mode will revert the board state by two moves: it removes the computer's last move and your preceding move, returning the turn to you.
Can I play this game on my smartphone or tablet?
Yes, the board is fully responsive and touch-optimized. You can tap to select pieces and tap again to move them, providing a smooth experience on any screen size.
Why are there numbers next to the captured pieces?
The side panel calculates the total point value of captured pieces (Pawn=1, Knight/Bishop=3, Rook=5, Queen=9). The + number indicates which player currently has a material advantage on the board.
